Sustainability takes centre stage at the World Championship Stage on 13–14 August
As part of the 2026 Team Racing World Championship, the World Championship Stage in the Race Village at Norr Mälarstrand will bring together leading voices from the city, business community and sailing world for two open afternoon sessions focusing on sustainability. On 13 and 14 August, the spotlight will be on how international sailing events can act as catalysts for sustainable transformation, both on and around the water, in the heart of the city.
On 13 August, the focus will be on water, the city and sustainable events. Discussions will explore how logistics, waste management, port operations and water resources can be managed responsibly when hosting a World Championship on Riddarfjärden, an area that also serves as a drinking water source for more than two million people. The day will showcase concrete sustainability cases from the 2026 World Championship and conclude with a joint Q&A session on how ambitions can be translated into practical action.
On 14 August, the focus will turn to sailing itself, as well as how sustainable food can become an integral part of a regatta. With a focus on material choices, product lifetimes and electrification on the water, leading industry actors will demonstrate how technological innovation, circular solutions and new energy systems can reduce sailing’s climate footprint without compromising performance or the overall experience.
The 2026 World Championship is being organised in accordance with World Sailing’s sustainability standard Clean Regattas, with the ambition of achieving Gold or Platinum certification, the highest international levels. The discussions on the World Championship Stage will be moderated by Patrick Ståhle, Chairman of Gamla Stans Yacht Sällskap, the host club of the championship.
Together, these sessions demonstrate how collaboration between sport, cities and business can position Stockholm as an international role model for sustainable events, creating lasting value far beyond the days of competition.
